Winter Walk

There is a young Hispanic woman who walks on our road every morning. Well, she seems to walk every morning that I am on the road about 7:30. I've seen her walk in the heat and in the cold. Rain or snow! (Just assuming she walked the snow morning.) When I first saw her walking she had a partner, but now..... she has been joined by a pack of small dogs. I don't think they all belong to her. They just seem to join her as she walks down the road every morning for her early morning walk. I don't know why only small dogs walk with her when we have large dogs all around. But there is one little dog that makes me smile every time I see him. He wears a sweater. Just a little dog out walking on a country road with a pack of dogs ..... wearing a sweater!

February Flowers

In February when we feel winter has lingered too long , but we know it's not over, the daffodils and tulips break through to remind us that spring blossoms are coming. (If one had the foresight to plant bulbs, that is.) While I love and enjoy the tulips that are easy to pick up while shopping, I have an even greater love for daffodils, dating back to the flowers that bloomed in my parent's yard during my early childhood. Even when David and I had the measles and were not supposed to be in any sunlight I needed to pick the daffodils. And I did. My mother was hysterical! She had carefully covered the windows so we would not be blinded by the sunlight, but I saw the daffodils blooming and just had to run outside to gather a nice bouquet to brighten our sick room. I am thankful to say I did not go blind at the time but today at church I thought it had finally (and very suddenly) happened. I put on glasses to read and could not make out the letters. Amazing how quickly your eye sight can go. When I put on my own readers instead of Laurie's glasses my eyesight was restored. Maybe next fall I'll work a bed of bulbs. Or just learn to love the tulips even more!
