Enoying Art ............

Art Linkletter that is. Art linkletter was always an entertainer I enjoyed. I saw Art Linkletter once, right here in town. In fact at our local high school, before I even taught there. Art Linkletter's "People Are Funny" and the segment "Kids Say the Darnest Things" was a favorite when it was on the air, in the sixties I believe.

My favorite story was one I read from his book with the same title as the segment. He tells of how the producers would choose the children for the segment after interviews and he would talk with them very briefly a week or so before the actual shooting in order to get an idea for his trademark leading questions. One little boy who had been so talkative and funny during interviews was very subdued on production day. Art asked him if there was anything wrong and he responded that his dog had died. Art wanted to help the child's feelings and said that the dog was in heaven with God. The little boy quickly asked, " What does God want with a dead dog?"

I have often thought of this story in response to many situations. What would God want with my dead dogs?
